Number of Capes You Have: 1

Pet or Breeder: Pet

Why did you chose a Cape Parrot?: We wanted a parrot that was cuddly and affectionate but not velcro like a cockatoo, quiet enough to live in a condo, would be able to talk, and be medium sized. After a lot of research we decided on the Poicephalus family. The Cape just stood out as being the bird for us. We had trouble choosing a sub-species but decided on the Suahelicus because their big beak looks cool.

Sex: Male

Sub-species: Suahelicus

Weight: 380 grams

Amount of coloring & where: Still has some (very light) poppy on his forehead. We expect it will disappear on his first molt.

Length (nose to butt): 11 1/2 inches

Where Purchased: Old World Avaries in Austin, Texas

When Purchased: March 2000

Age When Brought Home: 5 months

Hand Fed: Yes

Price Paid: $1100

Shy or aggressive around strangers: He loves people. He will step up onto and make friends with anyone.

Talking ability: No words yet. He just makes a chirp and a grobble-grobble sound

How would you rate noise: Very quiet.

How would you rate activity level: Moderate. He can really climb and clown around but doesn’t do it for long periods. He loves to kill his toys especially toys with knots and beads.

Likes to bathe: Unsure. He doesn’t get upset, but he doesn’t get into it either. I think he doesn’t like being in the bath tub.

How cuddly or affectionate: He is extremely cuddly and affectionate. He would rather sit on your hand than a perch.

Territorial: No, but we haven’t had him long enough for him to get territorial over anything.

Size and type of cage: YML 33Hx32Wx23D This is a good sized cage for Thor. He has room to flap and have a bunch of toys.

Favorite toys and perches: His favorite toys are a hanging stoplight with ropes, knots and beads and a foot toy bar bell with a ring. His favorite perch is your hand, he doesn’t seem to care where he sits in his cage and usually stays where you put him. When he is on his play pen he likes be perched at eye level.

What is the regular diet: Pellets (Harrisons), Nutri-cakes, fruits and veggies, and some people food.

Favorite Food: Grapes

Avian Vet or other Vet: Avian Vet. Dr. Van Sant in Los Gatos, CA

Wings Clipped: Yes Both

Any Health Problems or Accidents: None

Comments: We have only had our baby 2 days so this information is just our inital impressions. Thor is very smart. He has already escaped from his cage and untied the knot on his toy. He already does consistent step-ups. He is very easygoing. He lets you roll him onto his back. He got comfortable with his new home and people in one day.
