Have never heard that capes needed EXTRA iron. A well balanced diet usually provides the correct raw materials for this trace mineral--i.e. plenty of dark green veggies, many of the cereal grains, etc.
Iron storage disease which involves getting too much iron into birds that do not process it and pass it from the body is most common in Toucans and Toucanets, vartious softbills, also some lories and lorikeets. Twas for this reason that we always were careful of the amount of raisins we fed to our lorikeets as raisins are a great source of iron.
Lack of iron would be in the general classification of anemia and your vet could tell you more about whether or not that was a fear when keeping certain parrots. The only anemia we have come across that is dangerous is the one induced by blood-sucking mite infestation. Aloha, EB and April
