Hi Alisha,
Parrots will only take in NUts and pellets when offered and search around for their favorite ones at that. I have cut down on the amount of seed food i put in my Capes dish and he soon gets sick of throwing the other stuff out and then not having enough. A grate on the bottom should help with this as after the bird has finnished tossing all of the other food out it will have to then eat the fruit. It is normal for Parrots to seem not to eat very much when on pellets as a small amount will give them the energy they need. With regard to the hand feeding it is very hard and i am in the same position at the moment. Just make sure to distinguish between feeding time and cuddle time. Get the bird out to feed, put her back for a little while and then get her out again for cuddles.
I hope this helps and good luck!!!!
